Lap Sealant

DESCRIPTION

Firestone Lap Sealant is a high quality sealant with excellent adhesion to a variety of surfaces, and for use in conjunction with Firestone EPDM systems. Lap Sealant is specifically used for seam edge treatment applications, as well as other uses outlined in the Firestone Specifications.

METHOD OF APPLICATION

Surfaces to receive Lap Sealant must be clean, dry and free from loose and foreign materials, oil and grease. The procedure to apply Lap Sealant (edge treatment) at flashing seam edges is as folllows,

1. Wait before applying seam edge treatment

Wait to apply Seam Edge treatment a minimum of 4 hours after the completion of a flashing seam unless weather is threatening. If weather is threatening, apply SA-1065 Splice Adhesive to the edge of the flashing before leaving the project. If weather is not threatening, the seam edge treatment must be applied no later than the end of the next day following the completion of the seam.

For sealing cut edges of formflash. Used as a temporary sealant around cut edges of formflash. It protects the edges during the curing process and will break up after a few weeks.

2. Apply Lap Sealant

Apply a continuous bead of Lap Sealant approximately 3/8" x 1/4" (9.5mm x 6.3mm) centered over the flashing seam edge, using the plastic nozzle applicator supplied. Be sure to keep the nozzle applicator centered over the lap step-off.

 SHELF LIFE

Shelf life of one year can be expected if stored in original sealed containers at temperatures between 16 - 27 degrees until ready for use. When exposed to lower temperatures, restore to room temperature prior to use.
